How Do You Make a Spearfishing Float?

Spearfishing is an incredibly rewarding activity that requires precision and skill. To ensure a successful fishing trip, you must be equipped with the right gear.

One of the most important pieces of equipment for spearfishing is the float. The float serves as a marker to help locate the spearfisher and to keep their catch from getting lost in the water. Here are the steps for making your own spearfishing float.

Step 1: Gather Supplies

Before beginning, make sure you have all of the necessary materials for constructing your spearfishing float. You will need an empty plastic bottle, two pieces of PVC pipe, two plastic caps, two nuts, bolts, and washers, and some marine epoxy or silicone sealant.

Step 2: Cut PVC Pipes

Using a saw or other cutting tool, cut two pieces of PVC pipe to desired length. These pipes will serve as support arms for your float.

Step 3: Attach Pipes to Bottle

Using epoxy or silicone sealant, attach one end of each PVC pipe to either side of the bottle. Be sure that the pipes are securely attached before continuing.

Step 4: Add Caps and Nuts/Bolts/Washers

Securely attach one cap to each open end of each PVC pipe using nuts, bolts and washers. This will help keep water out of the pipes and ensure that they remain securely attached to the bottle.

Step 5: Fill Bottle with Water

Once all parts have been securely attached to your float, fill it up with water until it reaches desired buoyancy level. This can be adjusted by adding more or less water depending on how heavy you want your float to be.
